Will Quie is a Twin Cities–based guitarist, vocalist and bassist whose work spans jazz, gospel, and groove-based styles. He is the front man for the funk-fusion group Waterline. A graduate of Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, with further studies at Oberlin and Lawrence, Will brings a deep grounding in the jazz tradition alongside a flexible, collaborative approach. Will will be joined by a rotating cast of some of the Cities’ finest session musicians, offering a dynamic set shaped by the moment—rooted in jazz but open to wherever the music wants to go.
Ina-Yukka is a mother-and-son duet bringing the vibrant traditions of South American folk music and dance to the stage, alongside songs from the Nueva Canción movement. For over 18 years in the Twin Cities, Vladimir and Nia have performed together, sharing a unique bond that shines through in every song and step. Their performances feature rich vocal harmonies, traditional flutes, indigenous percussion, and powerful, socially conscious lyrics. Dressed in traditional attire, Ina-Yukka invites audiences into a dynamic and heartfelt celebration of culture, storytelling, and connection across generations.
Jonathan Rundman: "Bright, catchy indie-pop" - THE NEW YORK TIMES. "Rundman takes lyrical risks that pay off" - BILLBOARD. "Clever, intelligent songwriting" - PASTE MAGAZINE Born and raised in the isolated Finnish-American communities of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and now based in Minneapolis, Rundman twists literate lyrics, bedroom pop hooks, Nordic folk atmospherics, and garage rock attitude into his critically acclaimed songs.
With inspiration and influences from folk, pop, country, bluegrass, and “this 'n' that,” Sweet Rhubarb brings an eclectic mix of songs written by others and well-crafted originals. Exquisite vocal harmonies are a hallmark of their performances, which are always fun, warm, engaging, and inspiring. Personnel include Burna Krugler (vocals, guitar, bass, and occasional banjo), Ann Fate (vocals, guitar, banjo, harmonica and percussion), and Priscilla Thomas (vocals, bass, and guitar) with fiddle/mando collaborator Cam Fassett. The St. Paul, MN trio has been delighting regional audiences since 2009.
Barrel Flash is a St. Paul-based music project coming out of the folk traditions of the US, UK, and Ireland. Julia Brown, Ross Johnson and Brianna Webber with fiddle/mando collaborator Cam Fassett, bring a different bouquet of musical influences, applying their unique styling to many original works and novel interpretations of what we consider classics. Barrel Flash delivers honest, vibrant songs with powerful harmony and emotion. You’ll find the 2022 album "Barrel Flash Band: A Guide to Dancing Alone” on all streaming platforms.
Members of the Singing Resistance and Pig’s Eye Jass Band unite for a celebration of solidarity and resistance as we remember the winter’s struggle and commit to the continued unity of our community. The Singing Resistance stood together with many neighbors to counter the ICE surge with empowering song. Pig’s Eye Jass is a well-loved neighborhood band steeped in traditional jazz and blues from the 1890’s to the 1920’s. Chanteuse Nancy Hite joins the band singing in the style of the lady icons of blues. Pig’s Eye and the Singing Resistance welcome you to join them to celebrate the power of music and community.
Youth Road Crew is School of Rock St. Paul’s premier traveling band, made up of standout student musicians under age 14 from our performance-based programs. With a fun, upbeat, family-friendly set, they showcase the talent, energy, and hard work that define the School of Rock experience!
Ian Duerr is a jazz guitarist based in St. Paul, MN, known for his expressive, warm sound. After earning a BFA in jazz performance in 2004 he spent five years performing in jazz trios on cruise ships before moving to New York City, where he worked for over a decade as both a bandleader and sideman at top venues. His playing is shaped by a distinctive thumb technique, similar to Wes Montgomery, which gives his guitar a rich tone and natural swing.
The May North is an indie folk group from St. Paul, Minnesota. The songs they write draw from traditions in Americana, folk, and the blues, with honest writing about love, nature, long winters, and the textures of everyday life in the Upper Midwest. Over the years they have performed as a duo or trio up to full band ensembles, and their live show has taken them from intimate settings in the Driftless region, to coffee shops and festivals, and to the stage of The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. The May North has recorded four albums with producers including Dave Simonett and Ryan Young of Trampled by Turtles, and their fifth studio album, currently being produced by Ryan Young, is due out later this year. Their music is available on all major streaming platforms.
Second Hand Dan is a Minnesotan indie folk/rock band with two lead singers and horns. Since the release of their debut album, they've been performing at local venues and have opened for nationally touring acts. The band has been gigging around the Twin Cities for over ten years, forming before high-school. The group released their 18-track sophomore album in June of 2023. The LP received critical praise in spot three on TrackXTrack's "The Top Ten Best Albums of 2023" list.
Mary Cutrufello has been a Texas honky-tonk heroine, a fiery Midwestern roots-rocker, and a powerhouse acoustic performer in her almost 35 years in the music business. Connecticut-raised and Yale-educated, she's performed on The Tonight Show and Austin City Limits (twice), and toured in all 50 states and several European countries. Hailed by USA Today as "a fierce guitarist with a blistered-throat voice," Cutrufello's music is a captivating, heartland-proud musical stew at once timeless and immediate. And as anyone who’s seen her tear-it-up live shows can attest, her guitar skills put her in a class with the best of the Lone Star, North Star—or any other—State.
