I am a potter who lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After learning how to throw pots on the wheel, it was my first attempts at hand-building that really got me hooked on clay. Suddenly I could make more interesting shapes and use lots of texture on the clay.
As I create pieces, I am constantly thinking about what the piece should look like and what function it needs to perform. One informs the other until I come up with a pot that can satisfy both. I use texture to enhance the design and also to bring out the variations in the glaze. I use satin and matte glazes so that the pot's surface looks and feels soft and satisfying.
All of my pottery is hand-built, made from stoneware slabs, and fired to 2200 degrees. The resulting pots are durable and intended to be used.
I make functional pieces because I love the feel of pottery in the hand. I like knowing that people can use my pots to bring a sense of occasion to their everyday lives.
